TPRS is a name for a method that helps people learn langauges.. unlike "grammar" or "immersion" methods, TPRS actually works for a majority of people.. more learners leave class actually able to understand and speak, naturally..

Blaine Ray combined storytelling with TPR to start the TPRS movement. Many highly regarded teachers and able students have over the years helped to develop the method, which is gaining in popularity:

it is estimated that X students are currently learning language using the TPRS method, up from Y in 198? when it started and Z in 1997.

TPRS instruction has three key steps:

  1. Introduction of target grammatical structures through personalized questions and answers directed to individual students,
  2. Telling of the main story using a circling technique of asking questions (resulting in multiple repetitions of the target structures), and
  3. Reading stories where the target structures are used in various contexts.

one criticism of the TPRS method is that it has an arguably weak name or brand.. an stronger brand name may better sell the method to the world..

the idea here is a more free and learner-centric approach; owned by participants; inclusive to anyone who'd like to be involved.. the idea here is that the boss of storyasking is a set of core principles, not personalities..

read.fm's purpose simply to help more people learn more language..if storyasking.com can help more people discover and use the great TPRS method, then our purpose is served :)
