comprehensible input

comprehensible input, according to Dr. Stephen Krashen, is the basic nutrient people need to acquire language. if input (what you hear or read) is incomprehensible, you end up feeling lost.. this feeling of being lost or stressed out can be an affective filter that blocks your acquisition of new language. if input is more comprehensible, you understand more.. it feels good to "get it".. when you feel better you tend to learn more.. and the more you understand, the more context you have to "scaffold" your way into more learning.. the best comprehensible input is meaningful interaction with native speakers of a language.. both the TPR and TPRS language methods provide meaningful interaction enabling students to acquire language.. |
