[edit] gamesgames are fun.. not really real so it feels ok to play.. you feel like you're safe.. games play with our expectations.. we play games with all kindsa stories.. some kinda risky but not really.. the game here is just ask a story.. ask a story about any thing.. what does it mean?.. [edit] wordsor structures or chunks or blobs or whatever you like.. play with undictionaried words.. play and have fun with language.. mush words together, switch'em up, mess around.. play with french in english.. language is free.. play with it.. [edit] feelingsfeeling language is one way to play.. when you react to a story, react with feeling.. live a little.. no one else can make you have fun.. that's your job.. the more you react righteously, the more you're in the story, the more you connect with the language that tells the story.. the more you own the story.. just don't play with my feelings.. [edit] eyesplay picture talk.. talk about pictures.. [edit] earslisten really listen to words.. and the sound of music.. use your ears.. [edit] tongueplay with your voices.. exagerate.. make it fun.. [edit] nosesmells like.. [edit] gesturesmake up gestures that repeat stories.. [edit] imaginationall above, all in your head.. [edit] readingall above, all in your head.. how else could you read this? [edit] playplay is pretty basic if you think about it.. lively, communicative, back and forth, fun.. all kindsa animals play.. it almost always feels good.. |
In TPRS we are playing with sound and meaning (language). The kids want the house to be small and red so that they can say the word casa and roja in an emotional way. Emotions carry meaning for them. This is their chance to feel something during the drabness of the school day, which is spent largely in the left hemisphere of the brain. -Ben Slavic |
