thing can mean anything or nothing.. it can mean you, your family, your house, sunshine, ice, you name it.. logic is a thing.. emotion is a thing.. everything is a thing.. even nothing is a thing.. what isn't a thing? what about a blue thing? the "blue" says the way the thing is.. it says how it is but it doesn't say what it is.. but still, blue is a thing, one if many things in this thing called color.. since this thing "thing" can mean anything, you can use thing to say anything, like, you know, this thing, that thing.. that thing we were talking about yesterday.. if you can't remember the name of something, just call it a thing until you remember it's name is.. or pretend you can't remember.. you know, that thing we can't say right now.. or ask "what is that thing?" "what is that thing's name?" "what is the word for that thing?"
